I am new here and this is my first post. Any regulars that read this, please be kind in your responses as my questions here might be kinda novice sounding to you. That being said, I appreciate any insight any of you can provide me with in advance.
My question is this....
I ride a red, white, and black 09 R1... Two Brothers slip ons, undertail license, integrated rear tail light, blacked out zero gravity windscreen... pretty much stock other than that.
The bike is in the shop getting serviced currently, and I asked my mechanic about getting Angel Eyes headlights. She (yes, she... graduated top of her class at MMI and was a head wrench at a local Harley dealership) says she can def add them to the bike, but to ensure no further issues, she suggested I upgrade the regulator/rectifier (same thing on bikes, yes?) because sport bike electrical systems are really not made to handle any extra or more powerful electrical devices than what comes stock on the bike. Anything extra would likely shorten the life of the components in the electrical system. Her suggestion was to find an aftermarket regulator/rectifier that could handle more amps than the stock one. Seems easy enough.
Problem is... she says no one makes one that is an upgrade over the OEM unit. Stock replacements? Plenty. Upgrades? Not so much.
Any one have any insight on a company that makes an upgrade to the OEM rectifier/regulator?
Now... to be honest... I have not even checked to see if the Angel Eyes headlights even require more amps than the stock headlights, so maybe we have put the cart before the horse. She is the mechanic so I assume her assessment was accurate.
