I checked all over but couldn't find a good answer so I thought I'd post it up. I needed to remove my bar end inserts on my 08' R1 to insert polly hot hand grip heaters (cold northern weather). Was very simple to do.
1- Remove bar ends, grips and whatever controls you want.
2- Place small section of pipe over bar, with washer thread in screw a few turns.
3- Slide pipe against washer/screw.
4- Place vice grips on clipon up against pipe (I used three to avoid slipping)
5- Rotate screw clockwise, it will pull the insert out all by itself. Might need to adjust pipe and vice grips if you run out of screw travel.
6- To reinsert bar insert, simply use a socket which is approx the same diameter as the plug and tap in with a hammer.
I used polly hot hands and with the removal of the fitment tab they went right in; I can comment further on the wiring and install if anybody would like. Only tried them out in the garage so far and seem great, for 30 bucks - no more cold hands!
