So, I was posting in the Bazzaz ZFi install thread but I thought this warrented a new thread, not only to get answers but to maybe help fellow riders who may come across similar problems.
So; this is a long story but please bear with me and try to keep up, as I need help or ideas.
Bike is a UK bike, Flashtuned, Two Bros end cans, Akra decat, stock filter.
I decided I wanted to fit a Bazzaz + Autotune, Block plates and while everything is was off, change the plugs out as well.
So I set about doing it, took it all apart, did the Block off plates, changed the plugs and installed the Bazzaz + Autotune. Put it all back together and it turned over, and over and over and nothing. I kept turning it over for a while and nothing seemed to fire up.
Then I noticed that the engine FI light was on and I was getting a code 39. This points to open or short circuited primary injector circuit. So I checked all the connections etc and kept trying and it was still failing. So I disconnected the Bazzaz as I had read that it could be the Bazzaz but this has not helped either and it still throws the code!!
If I give it some gas then it will start, but touching the exhaust down pipes, only cylinders 2 & 4 seem to be firing, 1 & 3 are cold.
Back into the diagnostics and if I check each injector they all seem to operate correctly, each one producing 5 audible clicks. I checked the coils in the same way and they are also all working ok.
So this would then lead to the ECU(?).
I have checked all of the plugs again and of course the 2 that are in cylinders 2 & 4 are black and the other 2 are completely clean as they haven't fired. But we don't know if that is down to fuel or spark.
I checked the battery and it is only at 11.3 V across the terminals ( i assume due to prolonged cranking). Yamaha have said that these bikes can be very sensitive to low voltage which tends to cause them to act funny.
Another discovery was that I tapped the Bazzaz power into the wrong wire and was only on a +2V not a +12V so in theory the Bazzaz never actually worked, which would have thrown up the code 39.
So, it is possible that the ecu wont recode, or clear the code because the battery is too low to allow it to function correctly.
I'm seriously running out of ideas now and Im due to leave for a road trip to Europe in less than 3 weeks!
My next port of call is to put my malfunctioning ECU into a mates 2010 bike to see what happens, this should rule out or identify the ECU as the problem. I will also put the battery on charge overnight and see if that helps.
Any questions? :eek::eek::confused:
*Edit: Another thought is: Is there any difference between a Bazzaz for a UK bike vs. a US spec bike?
