I just bought a 2005 R1 with 35K miles on it.
I rushed my test ride because a storm was coming and I really didn't get to corner much on it. Now that I have, I realize I have some issues that I need to fix. Please help me know what to chase.
1.) Front brakes grab and "pulse". (It has Galfer wave rotors on it and I think the pads didn't reach the edges of the rotor. The right rotor has a bit of a lip on the outside edge that I believe is hitting the pad and then dropping out causing it to pulse) I've ordered new brake pads, but am wondering if I need to pull the rotors and machine off that outside bur to fix it. The rotors do not appear to be warped at all and they are not grooved. Any other thoughts?
2.) When you turn, it really wants to dive over to that side and you have to really press against the bars to straighten it back up rather than it wanting to come back up on it's own. I've seen this before on a big heavy bike when the steering bearings were worn. Is this a potential fix or is it likely something else?
3.) Front tire is worn so I'll be replacing it....would a worn front tire cause any of the above?
4.) Bike has 35k miles and I have no idea what fork springs are in it or when the forks have been serviced last. Any recommendations for a good shop in Arlington (Dalllas / Ft Worth) Texas that does good suspension work? If not, what tools do I need to service them myself?
All in all...I've made better buying choices....having said that, the engine is strong and I didn't pay very much for it so I was expecting some amount of repair to make it right.
I'm pretty handy with a wrench, please let me know your thoughts on the above so I can get the right parts on order and get it fixed.
Thx much...
