Hi chaps
Phew where do i start . i have a 2008 r1 that has been nothing but trouble from day one 14000 km and i have had to replace the head after it nearly dropped a valve that was followed by the stalling problem did the air bypass screw fix which worked for a bit it then came back and the only way that it would not stall was by winding them out a further half turn till had three and a half turns and they were so loose i could not go any more so replaced the throttle bodies which seems to have fixed the stalling . then for some reason the bike would not fast idle when cold so i synced the bodies no good .have checked the water temp sensor good . it will run good if i disconnect ether the air pressure sensor or the atmospheric pressure sensor then it has the best idle that it has ever had and go,s like stink but now i have light come up but will live with the light. Anyway the latest problem that i have is an oil leak which seems to be coming from the base gasket at the back. its not massive and only seems to be leaking when i do sustained runs of about 200 km per hour when i put it on the side stand and the bike is leaning i get a small puddle on the floor. i at first thought that it might be the cam cover gasket .the back of the head shows no signs of oil the same with the barrels except right at the bottom so i think that i need to change the base gasket . when i look through the manual it seems to be saying that when reinstalling i should put the pistons into the barrels then put the barrels back on and connect the con rods back to the crank this seems a lot of work (have to split the crankcase) to me just for a gasket . does anyone know if the barrels can be removed and replaced without splitting the crankcase.s and if so what sort of piston ring compressor should i be using. PS i have removed the engine already. Any help or advise would be most welcome Regards Roy
