Decided to start the long process of resurrecting my Honda RVF400. While I'm saving the cash for a 5vy.
SO..the situation. The bike has stood at the back of my mums damp garage since mid 2008. straight after it jumped outta gear pulling a wheelie, smashed me into a kerb for 25feet n busted my clavicle!.
In that time its only been moved around the garage once. Not Been started since.

So today I started stripping it down and taking stock...
I stripped off all the panels so I could give it a proper going over.
The optimate says the batt I bought for it a couple of years ago still lives. Fitted it turn on the ignition and we get dash lights, and tail lights!
I didn't try to turn it over as the oil has probably totally drained from the top end by now and will be full of water.
What's the best way to first fire up?
I was thinking, possibly drain the old oil out. Leave in the old filter, fill it with remainder oils from sealed containers in tha garage (yamalube, silkolene), not ideal I know but can't afford to flush with brand new oil, this be ok shouldnt it?.
Then whip out the spark plugs and drizzle abit down the bores. Click in gear and push the bike to free up the pistons and coat the bores. Fire it up (providing it fires up) leave it to run for a couple of mins then drain, and fit new filter and refill with brand new oil. Sound ok? Any tips??
The chain is pretty rusty, will it be ok with a clean up, or with all the little o-rings be buggered and just bin it? (keep in mind this is a pockect change project).
Left fork seal is weeping.
Left clip on snapped, left rearset bent to buggery. Bit at least I managed to unsieze the brakes and got it rolling.
As I left things tonight...
